I love comics. I actually collect comics, and I’ve been collecting X-Men comics for a while now. Typically, I focus exclusively on getting covers related to Magneto. In fact, I’m basically an expert on Magneto. Granted in modern comics, he isn’t as villainous as he once was.

I think villains shaped through trauma make the best compelling characters, because you can understand why. Magneto should always be a survivor of the holocaust, even if the character is being written in 2045. It adds a lot to his character. I also admired that Magneto was more philosophical than the average “villain”, and could verbally spar with Charles Xavier and other X-Men.

I heard that the upcoming movie will have Magneto be a refugee. I’m not trying to diminish what people have gone through, but Magneto needs to be a person who has survived a genuine holocaust. It’s a core part of his character. Changing that will make him feel less understandable. So he was denied at the border, that means he now wants to kill all humans? Doesn’t make any sense.

I also just like his character design. Something really fun about his look, and how he comes across as powerful as he does. A flowing cape, long white hair, and a gravitas that the Brotherhood of EVIL Mutants would love! (I will never forgive them for dropping Evil from the name.)
